A heat gun is invaluable when removing vinyl flooring but it can be very dangerous.
Remove plywood linoleum or vinyl floor together.
Once you get the vinyl planks up you will most likely still have some adhesive on the floor.
Turn the heat gun on and aim it at the old linoleum that is left behind when pulling off the top.
Use a heat gun to soften it and make your life so much easier.
To remove any remaining backing apply heat to the floor in small sections using a wallpaper steamer a heat gun or even a hair dryer set on high can also work in a pinch.

To remove vinyl flooring you must first take all furniture out of the room giving yourself unimpeded access to the work area.

Unless you are submerging your wood floor i would not worry about the wood warping.
To remove the linoleum and subfloor together drill a hole through the floor to determine how thick the plywood is.
